Many health systems are only prescribing Tamiflu to the younger and older populations most at risk of dire influenza symptoms, David Ottenbaer, MD, vice president of primary care services at St. Louis-based SSM Health said in the report.
The rationing comes after ongoing national supply chain issues.
“Unfortunately everybody who we would in normal circumstances would offer Tamiflu to, we just aren’t able to give them the drug right now,” Dr. Ottenbaker told WMTV. “The shortage is going to be long term. This will not be over in a week or two.”
