The tool, Price Edge, acts like the price matching policy some retailers, including Target and Best Buy, have adopted.
“Price Edge scans available prices and automatically provides the lowest available pricing to the member,” UnitedHealth’s news release said. “If there is a lower cost to the member outside of their insurance benefit, Price Edge automatically applies that price.”
The application does not collect administrative fees, goes toward each member’s deductible and out-of-pocket maximum, and tracks potential contraindications between medications.
