The Trump administration has expanded its TrumpRx drug pricing platform to 54 medications, adding 11 drugs since its February launch, as questions persist about the site’s overall impact on prescription costs.
The site debuted with 43 brand-name drugs and is expected to continue adding products. It primarily targets uninsured patients or those without coverage for high-cost medications such as GLP-1s and fertility treatments.
TrumpRx allows consumers to compare cash prices tied to manufacturer discounts, but the platform does not support insurance, direct purchasing or deductible integration.
Early adoption has been limited. About one-third of patients report awareness of the site, while 7% say they have used it to compare prices, rising to 16% among GLP-1 users.
Pricing comparisons have also raised concerns about the platform’s value. For example, some drug prices in Germany were lower than those listed on TrumpRx. For some patent-protected drugs, U.S. prices exceeded international prices by thousands of dollars per month, including a $2,700 monthly difference for Ngenla.
Reporting has also found many TrumpRx-listed drugs are already available at lower costs through insurance, generics or third-party discount platforms.
Still, some industry voices point to early benefits. Mark Cuban, whose Cost Plus Drugs partners with TrumpRx, said the platform is helping patients save money on certain medications.
“Reality is, it’s saving patients money on IVF and a few other drugs. A lot of money,” Mr. Cuban wrote in a March 18 post on X.
Experts said TrumpRx’s long-term impact will depend on whether it can expand its drug list, improve transparency and offer savings beyond existing programs.
