6 recent drug, device recalls

Medical device and drug recalls, whether voluntary or forced by the FDA, ensure patient safety. Here are six reported by Becker's Hospital Review in the last month:

1. Glenmark recalls 31,000 tubes of antifungal cream
Glenmark Pharmaceuticals is recalling 31,224 tubes of an antifungal cream due to customer complaints about its texture.

2. FDA recalls heart valve delivery system linked to 1 death, 17 injuries
The FDA has issued a Class 1 recall of the Sapien 3 Ultra transcathether heart valve delivery system after reports of burst balloons during surgery. As of July, one death and 17 injuries had been reported to the devicemaker. 

3. Pfizer recalls migraine tablets, cites contamination risk
Pfizer is recalling two lots of Relpax, tablets to treat migraines, due to bacterial contamination concerns.

4. Contaminated pain relief cream recalled
Ridge Properties is recalling four lots of its 4 percent lidocaine topical cream and liquid gel products due to microbial contamination. The products also contained a higher potency of lidocaine than the label suggests.  

5. 43 Herbal Doctor products recalled
Herbal Doctor Remedies has recalled 43 products due to unsafe manufacturing practices and marketing without FDA approval.

6. Maryland drugmaker recalls birth control pills that might not work
Jubilant Cadista Pharmaceuticals, a drugmaker based in Maryland, is recalling one lot of its  drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol birth control tablets over concerns that they might not work properly.
