Tufts-Harvard Pilgrim health insurer names new CEO

The newly combined Tufts Health Plan and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care named Cain Hayes its new CEO, effective July 5.

Mr. Hayes will succeed Tom Croswell, who has served as CEO since the insurers officially combined Jan. 1. He announced his retirement in late January and will stay on in an advisory role through the end of July.

Mr. Hayes joins the Tufts-Harvard Pilgrim health insurer from his role as president and CEO of Gateway Health, a managed care organization in Pittsburgh. Mr. Hayes also has held executive roles at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota and Aetna.
