Trump administration won't approve partial Medicaid expansions

States won't be granted funding to partially expand their Medicaid programs under the ACA as the law's constitutionality remains in question, according to The Washington Post

Early this year, federal officials authorized Utah to move forward with plans to partially expand its Medicaid program to a limited number of residents, up to 90,000 adults. However, two senior officials told The Washington Post that Utah or any other state won't get federal funding for partial Medicaid expansion, as the administration is siding with 18 Republican attorneys general who argue that the ACA is unconstitutional.

Under the Obama administration, states also couldn't get federal funding for partially expanding the program, in an effort to encourage states to fully expand their Medicaid programs. In comparison, Trump officials are arguing it wouldn't make sense to approve the funding while the administration claims the entire ACA should be ruled unconstitutional.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit is expected to make its decision on the case in the coming weeks, according to The Washington Post
