Independence Blue Cross, Tower Health end contract dispute

Tower Health in West Reading, Pa. — formerly Reading Health System — and Independence Blue Cross inked a three-year contract, effective immediately.

Last week, Philadelphia-based Independence Blue Cross members lost in-network access to five Pennsylvania hospitals purchased by Tower Health from Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems. Tower Health rejected Independence's in-network deal prior to completing its purchase of the hospitals Oct. 1.

Under the new contract, Independence Blue Cross members regained in-network access to five Pennsylvania hospitals: Brandywine Hospital in Coatesville, Phoenixville Hospital, Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, Jennersville Regional Hospital in West Grove and Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia.
