Cigna's profits grow to $1.4B in Q2, driven by Express Scripts integration

Cigna reported higher revenue, operating income and profits in the second quarter of fiscal year 2019, driven by its combination with Express Scripts.

Cigna saw its total revenues climb 238 percent year over year to $38.8 billion in the three months ended June 30, compared to $11.5 billion in the year prior, according to financial documents.

At the same time, Cigna recorded a 255 percent increase in expenses, recording $36.7 billion in the second quarter of 2019 compared to $10.3 billion in the same period a year prior.

Cigna reported operating income of $2.2 billion in the second quarter, up 86 percent from $1.2 billion in the same period a year prior.

Cigna ended the second quarter with net income of $1.4 billion, compared to $808 million reported in the same period a year prior.
