BCBS, Saint Francis dance around contract renewal

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma and Tulsa, Okla.-based Saint Francis Health System are both reportedly ready to renew their contract, but still sit in their transition period without a new agreement.

The two severed ties April 30 after contentious contract negotiations led to split accounts from leaders hours before the midnight deadline. Failure to reup the contract caused a 90-day period through July 29 before Saint Francis Health System is no longer in-network for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma members.

Both parties are willing to sign an agreement, but nothing has been made public yet, according to News on 6. Blue Cross and Blue Shield said in a statement to the news station that there are "outstanding items" that still need to be settled.

About 59,000 members are stuck in the middle of the conflict, with some supporting a petition to get the parties to at least sign a temporary agreement before coverage lapses.
