Here are five things to know about the appointment.
1. As CFO, Ms. Santangelo will develop and lead BCBS of Massachusetts’ financial strategies.
2. Ms. Santangelo will replace current CFO Allen Maltz, who will retire at the end of this year.
3. She joined BCBS in 2003 and most recently served as chief actuary. Prior to BCBS, Ms. Santangelo held various leadership roles at Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna.
4. She is a Society of Actuaries fellow and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
5. Ms. Santangelo earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
