Double-digit increases on the way for Delaware individual health premiums

The Delaware Department of Insurance approved premium rate increases for two insurers offering on exchange individual plans for 2017.

Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart approved an average 23.6 percent increase for individual Affordable Care Act plans through Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna. Ms. Stewart also OK'd an average 32.5 percent increase for individual ACA plans through Willington-based Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware. 

In terms of small group plans, the commissioner approved an average 19.7 percent increase for Aetna and an average 2.7 percent increase for Highmark.
