Deputies shoot, kill patient at Florida hospital

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies shot and killed a patient at University Hospital in Tamarac, Fla., on Dec. 1.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office told WPLG deputies were dispatched to the hospital after hospital staff reported that Jarvis Randall, a 30-year-old patient, was violent and threatening other people with a sharp weapon. Deputies said the patient was demonstrating threatening behavior when they arrived.

Deputies used a bean-bag gun to try to subdue Mr. Randall, but they said that did not work. Mr. Randall then charged the deputies, and three of them fired their weapons at the patient, the sheriff's office spokesperson told WPLG.

Mr. Randall was taken to Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach, Fla., where he was pronounced dead, according to the report.
