Monroeville, Pa.-based Forbes Hospital treated 11 patients, Mark Rubino, MD, president and CMO of the hospital, said at an afternoon news conference Jan. 4. Dr. Rubino said the hospital received an alert around 4 a.m. regarding the passenger bus accident.
“The people coming in were not only physically injured but they were traumatized from a mental standpoint as well,” Dr. Rubino added. “So we actually brought in some teams of social workers and psychologists really just to deal with that trauma as well.”
As of Jan. 4, five patients at Forbes Hospital had been discharged, two patients were undergoing surgery and four patients were receiving treatment. No patient in the crash died at Forbes Hospital.
Mount Pleasant, Pa.-based Excela Frick Hospital treated 31 patients from the accident, 27 of whom were released in stable condition. Three were transferred to UPMC Presbyterian and one was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital, both in Pittsburgh.
Eighteen people, including six children, were treated and released from UPMC Somerset.
