Commissioners unanimously voted to submit a letter to the health system expressing their concerns about the proposed consolidation following the Mayo Clinic’s decision. Officials also requested representatives from the Mayo Clinic’s Albert Lea and Austin campuses attend the hospital’s July 11 or July 18 board meetings.
While the health system said no job losses will occur during or after the transition, county officials claim that will not be the case. County officials also questioned how lower-income individuals would access the services transitioning from the Albert Lea campus to the Austin hospital, according to the report.
In a statement to the Albert Lea Tribune earlier this week, Mayo Clinic officials said the hospital remains committed to Albert Lea residents.
