6 hospitals that recently cut services

Six healthcare organizations recently shuttered medical units or terminated services in the last two months to shore up finances, focus on more in-demand services or improve patient care:

1. Ohio hospital closes behavioral health unit
Bellaire, Ohio-based Belmont Community Hospital shuttered its behavioral health unit.

2. Michigan hospital's birth center closes
Sturgis (Mich.) Hospital's birth center closed Jan. 2 amid job and services cuts.

3. New York hospital requests closure of inpatient behavioral health unit           
Geneva, N.Y.-based Finger Lakes Health is requesting permission from the New York State Department of Health and the Office of Mental Health to close the inpatient behavioral health unit at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital.  

4. DC's Providence Hospital will keep ER open, close other acute services           
In September 2018, Providence Health System in Washington, D.C., owned by St. Louis-based Ascension, announced it would close its emergency room Dec. 5 and all acute care services by Dec. 14, but part of that closure has been pushed back.

5. HCA closes Sister Emmanuel Hospital in Miami           
Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare closed Sister Emmanuel Hospital, a Miami-based long-term care hospital, Dec. 1.       

6. Cape Valley system closes North Carolina urgent care center           
Fayetteville, N.C.-based Cape Fear Valley Health closed the ExpressCare urgent care center at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center campus, hospital officials announced.
