Northwell nurse leader 1st to get COVID-19 vaccine — again

Sandra Lindsay, RN, made history as the first American vaccinated against COVID-19 in 2020. Now, she's among the first to get the new booster, ABC affiliate WABC-TV reported Sept. 13.

"I was the first the last time, so why not be the first this time," said Ms. Lindsay, who serves as vice president of public health advocacy at New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health.

At the time she received her first vaccine in December 2020, Ms. Lindsay was a critical care nurse and intensive care unit director at Northwell's Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park. She has said her goal was not to become the first person to receive a vaccine but to lead by example and help expel lingering skepticism about the vaccine seen even in some of her own staff members.

The CDC and FDA cleared updated COVID-19 boosters this week for most people 6 months and older.
