Virginia Senate Finance Committee Co-Chairman Emmett W. Hanger Jr. (R-Augusta) confirmed to the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the governor’s proposal to expand Medicaid won’t be included in the two-year budget the senate will release this weekend. The senate’s spending plan also will not include Gov. McAuliffe’s proposals to eliminate the state corporate tax rate and expand the individual tax exemption with anticipated state savings from using federal funds to expand Medicaid, according to the report.
The Virginia House’s proposed budget is also not slated to include Medicaid expansion.
In the meantime, the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association has proposed a 3 percent provider assessment on hospital operating revenues to help Virginia hospitals with declining reimbursements for care, the cost of graduate medical education and financial distress for rural hospitals, according to the report.
