Cardiologist Tullio Emanuele, MD, has filed a whistleblower suit alleging the hospital allowed improper angioplasty procedures and billed for them from 2001-2005. Dr. Emanuele, who was formerly affiliated with UPMC Hamot, is suing five physicians and two medical practices along with the hospital. He also claims physician practice Medicor Associates engaged in kickbacks with Hamot to induce referrals. Medicor is now the full-service cardiology group for Hamot.
A UPMC spokesperson said the hospital does not comment on pending litigation, according to the report.
