Troubled Calhoun Liberty signs contract with Alliant Management Services

Louisville, Ky.-based Alliant Management Services is set to manage Blountstown, Fla.-based Calhoun Liberty Hospital, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

Alliant specializes in turning around small rural hospitals, with clients in Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Florida and North Carolina. The company also operates the small Northwest Florida Community Hospital in nearby Chipley.

Alliant executive James Heitzenrater was appointed interim CEO of the hospital in March following the death of a patient that was forcibly removed from the hospital. 57-year-old Barbara Dawson died at the hospital on Dec. 21, when she was separated from her oxygen machine and arrested after she refused to leave the emergency room.

As a result of the management services agreement, Mr. Heitzenrater left his position at the hospital Sept. 21. Alliant will continue to provide oversight of the hospital under a new CEO is appointed, according to the article.
