The woman filed the lawsuit against the medical center in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Sept. 20. The woman alleges the medical center failed to investigate and supervise Mr. Mekonen after earlier sexual abuse allegations were filed against him by hospital patients, according to the article.

Mr. Mekonen was placed on leave Sept. 9 after the 87-year-old woman came forward with complaints against him. He was arrested and charged Sept. 14 with first degree rape and first degree unlawful sexual penetration. Providence reportedly terminated him after his arrest.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office spokesman sergeant Bob Ray said in a statement that investigators had identified several other potential victims, but declined to provide exact details.

Mr. Mekonen’s trial is set for Sept. 29.
