Violent patient scratches, bites St. Luke's Hospital staff

An "out of control" patient faces charges of assault and harassment after reportedly attacking a security guard and an emergency room nurse at Easton, Pa.-based St. Luke's Anderson Campus last week, according to WFMZ news.

29 year-old Rene Andino was arraigned Sept. 17 on charges of aggravated assault and two counts each of simple assault and harassment.

Police responded to the hospital just before 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 after receiving reports of an unruly patient. An officer reportedly arrived to find Ms. Andino restrained to an emergency room bed, according to the article.

According to court documents, Ms. Andino had been receiving care for a reported car accident. Ms. Andio said she wanted to leave, but hospital staff allegedly told her that she was unable to leave due to her physical and mental condition.

Ms. Andino reportedly became combative, charging the security guard and attacking the nurse. The two individuals reportedly attempted to restrain her. Police said she bit and scratched the individuals, leaving an imprint of her teeth on the nurse's arm, according to the article.

Ms. Andino's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 26.
