A shooting at Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Allenmore Hospital has left one man dead and a woman injured, CBS News reported.
The Tacoma Police Department received a call regarding a shooting around 7 p.m. on Aug. 6. When they arrived at the scene, they found two people suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. A 21-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet and her boyfriend was pronounced dead at the scene, despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, the police told CBS affiliate KOMO News.
A family member of the woman told KOMO that the pair got into a fight before the shooting and the suspect followed them to the ED before opening fire.
Police confirmed that no one is currently in custody and emphasized that it was not an active shooter situation.
Yesterday, MultiCare Allenmore Hospital was on restricted access due to an incident in the ED, and restricted access for any visitors, a hospital spokesperson told Becker’s. As of this morning, the ED is still open for walk-ins, but the waiting room remains closed due to the police investigations, and ambulances are still being diverted.
MutliCare Health System, also based in Tacoma, Wash., operates 13 acute care adult hospitals throughout the state of Washington, as well as over 300 primary, specialty and urgent care clinics. The system employs over 28,000 personnel, according to the system’s website.
