CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz is revamping leadership roles at the agency, a spokesperson told Bloomberg May 23.
Rebekah Armstrong has been named CMS’ new chief of staff, according to the report. She most recently led the agency’s Office of Legislation. She previously served as AHIP’s vice president of federal affairs from October 2020 through July 2023. She also previously served as HHS’ deputy assistant secretary for legislation from September 2018 through October 2020.
Ms. Armstrong takes over the chief of staff role from Stephanie Carlton, RN, who also served as deputy administrator, according to the report. Ms. Carlton will now focus on her deputy administrator role, where her work areas will include clinical AI initiatives and efforts to modernize Medicaid quality measures.
Prior to joining Dr. Oz’s CMS leadership team, Ms. Carlton served as a partner at McKinsey & Company. She also previously led Medicaid and Medicare Advantage issues for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee’s Republican staff.
