The collaboration will bring together the clinical and surgical expertise Shriners physicians and researchers with Georgia Tech’s own expertise in biomedical engineering and robotics.
Many of the joint research projects will use Shriners’ genetic and genomic data and both organizations’ experience with artificial intelligence and big data software to build customizable devices for young patients with neuromuscular conditions.
For example, one current project led by researchers from both organizations focuses on the construction of a wearable robotic exoskeleton equipped with voice recognition to help children with cervical spine injuries.
