Microsoft backs $54M funding round for medical AI company

Microsoft joined in on a $54 million series D funding round for medical imaging data and artificial intelligence platform Flywheel.

Flywheel will use the funding to expand its partnerships with public-sector healthcare companies and pharmacies. The company uses AI to consolidate and simplify complex imaging data, according to a June 27 Flywheel news release.

The funding round was co-led by Novalis LifeSciences and NVentures.

"Flywheel's products transform healthcare innovation by empowering organizations to efficiently and securely ingest, curate and share medical imaging data for accelerated research and AI development," Flywheel CEO Jim Olson said in the news release.
