BioNTech and Google invest in AI biotech company's $100M round

InstaDeep, an artificial intelligence company with a specialization in biology, has raised $100 million in a series B investment round, with investors including Google and BioNTech.

InstaDeep will use the funding to hire talent, improve its computing infrastructure and accelerate product launches, according to a Jan. 25 press release. Other investors are Chimera Abu Dhabi, Deutsche Bahn’s DB Digital Ventures, G42 and Synergie.

InstaDeep has previously collaborated with Google and BioNTech.

In 2020, BioNTech and InstaDeep formed a collaboration to use AI to develop new therapies, part of which included an early warning variant detection system for COVID-19, which has predicted more than 90 percent of variants around two months ahead of detection. It also has published joint research with Google's DeepMind and Google Research.
