5 AI investments from Mayo, Northwell, Mercy and HCA

With the buzz around artificial intelligence tools, the venture capital arms of top health systems are taking notice and investing in AI companies.

  1. Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic partnered with Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy to join a $7.7 million seed funding round for clinical artificial intelligence company Lucem Health.

  2. Northwell Holdings, the venture capital arm of New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health, helped launch Optain, an AI-powered ocular health company with a $12 million investment.

  3. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare participated in a $12 million investment round for AI clinical documentation company Augmedix.
  4. In April, Mayo joined in a $9 million series A financing round for Mediwhale, an AI-powered diagnostics company. 

  5. Northwell Holdings participated in a $1.25 million round for Neuovotion, a company that combines AI with neurostimulation for stroke patients.
