Hospitals and unions: 6 recent conflicts, agreements

Becker's Hospital Review has reported the following hospital-union events — including protests, contract agreements and unionization votes — since Dec. 21. 

1. USC hospital workers vote this month on whether to keep union
Healthcare workers at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale, Calif., will vote this month on whether they want to stay unionized.

2. Oregon system, nurses reach tentative labor deal
Bend, Ore.-based St. Charles Health System and nurses agreed to a tentative contract.

3. New York probing union-busting claims at Hudson Valley hospital
State investigators confirmed a probe into alleged union-busting at Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.-based NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital.

4. Inflatable rocket used to criticize Washington hospital exec salaries
Nurses and other healthcare workers plan to unveil an inflatable rocket at two Washington State hospitals to raise awareness about executive pay at Renton, Wash.-based Providence St. Joseph Health.

5. Hearing on Kaiser, union coalition labor dispute slated for March
The National Labor Relations Board issued a complaint and scheduled an evidentiary hearing to address allegations filed by a coalition of 11 labor unions against Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente.

6. Nurses picket at 2 Pennsylvania hospitals over contract
Nurses picketed outside two Philadelphia hospitals Jan. 3 to protest what they called unfair labor contracts.
