The unionization efforts raise concerns about how Amazon’s takeover of the grocery chain last year has affected compensation and culture at Whole Foods. Reports have indicated Whole Foods stopped granting lower-level employees stock options after Amazon acquired the company, according to the report.
The group intends to send an email Sept. 6 to employees across Whole Foods’ 490 stores asking for support in their attempt to unionize, according to CNBC, which cites the WSJ report. Whole Foods and Amazon did not immediately respond to CNBC‘s request for comment.
WSJ reported the 100,000-member Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union is helping employees organize.
