Primary care providers at Kalispell, Mont.-based Logan Health, signed a vote of “no confidence” in the hospital’s primary care leadership, just over six months after the group unionized, the Flathead Beacon reported Sept. 4.
Providers, represented by the Union of American Physicians and Dentists, wrote in a letter that they “no longer have confidence that primary care leadership is acting in the best interests of providers, staff, or patients.” They cited six reasons for the vote, including what they described as a lack of honesty and transparency, continued use of centralized scheduling, failure to follow medical staff bylaws, misuse of patient satisfaction scores and a unilateral decision-making style, the Beacon reported.
Cory Short, DO, chief medical officer at Logan Health Medical Center, said in a statement shared with Becker’s that the leaders are disappointed the “out-of-state organization is using disruptive tactics” instead of focusing on constructive dialogue at the bargaining table.
“This most recent targeted attack on primary care leaders who have dedicated themselves to serving this community is beneath the dignity of any legitimate labor organization,” Dr. Short said. “Our leadership is fully engaged in the established collective bargaining process, which is the proper legal channel for addressing all workplace matters.”
