A nurses strike at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, Mich., has surpassed the one-year mark as negotiations between the hospital and Teamsters Local 332 continue.
Nurses represented by Teamsters Local 332 began striking Sept. 1, 2025. Genesys Hospital joined Detroit-based Henry Ford Health in October 2024 through a joint venture with Ascension Michigan.
Here are six updates on the strike:
1. The hospital and union met Aug. 31 for their 93rd bargaining session, and another session is scheduled for Sept. 11, a hospital spokesperson told Becker’s.
2. The union said its nurses and case workers remain committed to reaching an agreement with Henry Ford but continue to seek greater accountability around staffing ratios.
“Although Henry Ford says it has offered staffing ratios consistent with the previous contract, it has not acknowledged that its proposal would remove accountability measures for those ratios, including staffing committees that addressed issues in a timely manner,” Teamsters Local 332 President Dan Glass said in a Sept. 4 statement shared with Becker’s.
Mr. Glass said union members will maintain the strike until a mutual agreement is reached.
3. Henry Ford Health said it has committed to the same nurse-to-patient ratios included in the Teamsters’ previous contract. The hospital also said it has raised nurses’ wages by up to 13% and implemented incentives, including a 10% differential for overnight shifts, a $2-per-hour weekend differential and critical staffing pay. The hospital said it has committed to honoring seniority and ensuring jobs for nurses who remain on strike.
4. The National Labor Relations Board dismissed a third unfair labor practice charge against Henry Ford Genesys Aug. 27, the spokesperson said.
5. Henry Ford Health also disputed the union’s continued reference to 750 striking nurses. The hospital said more than 350 nurses either worked through the strike or joined Genesys after it began, and that other nurses who initially went on strike have since returned to work or found employment elsewhere. The union previously described 750 Teamsters as striking at Genesys.
6. Henry Ford said about 2,500 employees have continued caring for patients at Genesys during the strike. The hospital said it has also invested millions of dollars in capital projects over the past year and added specialists, including a heart surgeon and neurosurgeon.
“Our doors remain open to our nurses who have been away and we are hopeful that they will choose to return to caring for our patients and community,” the hospital said in a Sept. 1 statement.
