The quality and safety degree path is the first of its kind in the western United States and is open to nurses and health professionals alike. Joanne Olsen, PhD, RN, will lead the new program. According to Dr. Olsen, the program’s curriculum focuses on creating more reliable practitioners to improve patient safety.
“The healthcare industry has been attempting to really produce incredible safe patient care,” said Dr. Olsen, according to the Beacon. “When you’re making changes and advancing, you need education in order to do that.”
The innovation master’s track will prepare nursing students for management positions ranging from unit director to executive level leadership.
“Innovation, I think, is really a central concept because of the healthcare reform and all the changes in healthcare systems, organizations and performance,” said Barbara Brand, associate professor and the innovation program’s leader, according to the Beacon. “We are reordering how we deliver healthcare and the trends are changing really quickly.”
Both programs will launch in fall 2017.
