Valhalla, N.Y.-based Westchester Medical Center Health Network and Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health have agreed to end their joint venture partnership involving Bon Secours Charity Health System.

Under the agreement, WMCHealth will assume full ownership and operational control of multiple nursing home facilities and the three Bon Secours Mercy Health hospitals in its western region:

  • Good Samaritan Hospital (Suffern, N.Y.)
  • Bon Secours Community Hospital (Port Jervis, N.Y.)
  • St. Anthony Community Hospital (Warwick, N.Y)

Bon Secours Mercy Ministries and the Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth — the health system’s Catholic sponsors — endorsed the transition. Going forward, the facilities will no longer operate as Catholic entities. Religious symbols and iconography will be retired or relocated in consultation with Mercy and local leaders.

WMCHealth has been the primary operator of the three hospitals and their affiliated facilities since entering the joint venture with Bon Secours Mercy Health in 2015.

“This evolution allows us to … support community care by enhancing our ability to deliver seamless, integrated care across the Hudson Valley and build a system that meets the evolving needs of the diverse communities we serve,” WMCHealth President and CEO David Lubarsky, MD, said in a Sept. 18 news release. “By fully integrating these hospitals, we are creating a stronger, more sustainable network that will serve generations to come.”

WMCHealth is a 1,700-bed system that operates nine hospitals — including the three western region hospitals — and employs more than 13,000 people, according to its website. It also has nearly 3,000 attending physicians.
