Meriter, a 448-bed community hospital and health plan, is the tenth hospital within UnityPoint and the first in Wisconsin. In a statement, system officials said the goal of the affiliation is to improve patient outcomes while reducing costs across a broad spectrum of hospitals. It was not disclosed if Meriter would be renamed.

UnityPoint and Meriter signed the initial deal in October. Financial terms were not disclosed. UnityPoint previously said, however, it will take an ownership stake in Meriter’s HMO — Physicians Plus Insurance.

UnityPoint has annual revenue of almost $3 billion and has grown to one of the 15 largest nonprofit health systems in the country.
