Effective Oct. 1, the two organizations will partner to “ensure the long-term viability of healthcare services throughout our region,” UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s CEO Peter Thoreen told the Chronicle Times.

Cherokee Regional, a 25-bed critical access hospital, will still be governed by its own board of directors. Officials stressed the transaction is not a merger or sale; it is a formal affiliation that builds on the organizations’ current relationship, according to the report.
