Two Maryland Hospital Systems Battle for State Approval of New Hospitals

In Maryland, Holy Cross Hospital, a 450-bed facility in Silver Spring and 887-bed Adventist HealthCare in Rockville are battling for state permission to build a new hospital in Montgomery County’s upcountry, according to a report by the Gazette.

The county would need an additional 210 hospital beds by 2015 for a growing and aging population, but it is possible that only one hospital would get the final approval, which is not expected until this fall.

Holy Cross proposes a 93-bed hospital in Germantown and Adventist HealthCare is planning an 86-bed hospital in Clarksburg.
