The merger will allow both hospitals to share expertise and expand programs, such as radiation oncology, neonatology, women’s services, cardiac oncology and bariatric services.
Florida Medical Center lost $8.4 million in 2007 and had a 38 percent bed occupancy rate; North Shore Medical Center earned $5.5 million in 2007 and had a 47 percent bed occupancy rate, according to the report.
The merger of the hospitals will be effective June 1.
