Tampa General Hospital has shared plans to build a new hospital on a newly-acquired 53-acre lot in Citrus County, Fla.
On Oct. 27, the academic health system said it had completed a purchase of the property next to its existing TGH Crystal River Emergency Center. Plans for the new site include a hospital, medical office building, central energy plant and helicopter pad, according to a news release.
The health system did not share a timeline for construction or project cost estimates, though said it will engage with community members to shape the services that will eventually be provided on the new property. Tampa General officials said the move will expand the region’s access to specialized care.
“This new property is another opportunity to leverage the full power and scale of Tampa General’s network to connect patients we serve in the TGH North market to the same specialized services, renowned clinical expertise, coordinated care and exceptional outcomes we offer at our leading academic medical center,” Steve Short, executive vice president of strategic growth, said in a news release.
The property marks the latest addition to TGH North, which was formed in 2023 when Tampa General acquired Bravera Health. It includes three hospitals, a freestanding ED, two ambulatory surgery centers and 10 primary and specialty care clinics.
Citrus County is situated about an hour north of the system’s flagship academic medical center in Tampa.
