While the boards of trustees of both organizations approved the merger in September, officials did not receive federal and state regulatory approval until Dec. 21.

As part of the deal, Blue Mountain Health’s two hospitals were rebranded St. Luke’s Palmerton (Pa.) Campus and St. Luke’s Gnaden Huetten Campus in Lehighton.

The organizations revealed their intent to combine last September. Officials said at the time the merger would result in at least 1,000 job openings across the combined entity.
