St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix and Phoenix Children's Hospital have combined their pediatric neuroscience programs to form the Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's Hospital, according to a joint news release by the hospitals.
The new institute combines the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center and the Children's Neurosciences Institute at Phoenix Children's Hospital. The hospitals united their programs to improve the level of care, strengthen training programs for residents and fellows and expand research programs.
P. David Adelson, MD, current director of the Children's Neurosciences Institute, will serve as director of the new institute, which is the second-largest pediatric neuroscience program in the country, based on patient volume.
The combined pediatric neuroscience program is a smaller part of a strategic alliance that merged pediatric programs at Phoenix Children's and St. Joseph's on June 1, 2011.
