Skaggs Hospital Signs Letter of Intent to Partner With CoxHealth

Branson, Mo.-based Skaggs Regional Hospital has signed a letter of intent to form a strategic partnership with Springfield, Mo.-based CoxHealth.

In January, Skaggs' board of directors issued a request for proposal seeking a partner to ensure Skaggs would maintain its workforce and continue to provide healthcare in Branson, according to the release. With the letter of intent, both organizations will explore each other's business practices.

According to the release, the finalized partnership — if approved by government agencies — will allow the organizations to act as one entity for purchasing, contracting and other business-related matters, while allowing Skaggs to maintain a significant level of independence. Skaggs will become a subsidiary of CoxHealth but retain its board, current employees, management and medical staff as well as its name.

According to the proposal, CoxHealth intends to significantly invest in Skaggs and the Branson community. Capital investments could include operating room and emergency department improvements, general refurbishment of facilities, technology upgrades and more, according to the release.
