Sitka Community Hospital considers integrating operations

Sitka (Alaska) Community Hospital officials is considering combining operations with Juneau-based Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, according to Kcaw.org.

SCH officials hired Seattle-based ECG Management Consultants to examine options for the two organizations, both of which are facing financial and operational challenges.

Officials said the consulting firm recommended the two facilities collaborate on a joint operating agreement to consolidate clinical and administrative services and create a shared workforce, according to the article.

Rob Allen, CEO of SCH, said in summary letter to the Sitka assembly that the plan would save money and streamline operations for both hospitals, making it easier to recruit specialists and expand services.
