The affiliation will take effect Dec. 1, and Saint Vincent will not receive money for the deal. According to the report, this affiliation is more formal than any deal the hospitals have had previously.
According to the report, Saint Vincent has a two-part plan to compete with UPMC Hamot in Erie, which joined the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in February 2011. The first part is this Cleveland Clinic affiliation and the second part is Saint Vincent’s recent merger announcement with Highmark.
