Officials said the partnership will ensure residents in the area have access to more cancer treatments, such as clinical trials typically only available at comprehensive care facilities, according to the article. Gov. Chris Christie, University Hospital CEO John Kastanis, Rutgers President Robert Barchi and other state officials announced the partnership on Sept. 20.

The program will be housed on the Rutgers Cancer Institute’s Newark campus.

“As an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey has the expertise to offer the latest treatment options and clinical trials as well as opportunities to reduce cancer incidence and improve patient outcomes,” said Bruce Haffty, interim director of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. “Residents in the greater Newark area have a unique need for the most rigorous education, research and best care available, and this new partnership between Rutgers Cancer Institute and UniversityHospital will result in additional care options.”
