Prime OK’d to acquire Maine health system

Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare’s nonprofit public charity, Prime Healthcare Foundation, has received state approval to acquire Lewiston-based Central Maine Healthcare.

In early January, the foundation shared plans to acquire Central Maine Healthcare, which comprises three hospitals, a cancer center, a heart and vascular institute and physician practices across the state. The foundation also committed to investing $150 million in the facilities over a five-year period. 

CMH’s facilities will retain their names and leadership under the acquisition. 

Becker’s has also reached out to Central Maine Healthcare and the Maine Department of Health for comment and will update this story should more information become available.
