The for-profit chain acquired 400-bed Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., and 80-bed Saint John Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan., agreeing to maintain emergency services at both facilities for a minimum of five years and invest at least $10 million for capital improvements in the same time. Other financial details were not disclosed.
In addition, the Kansas attorney general approved the purchases on the condition that Prime would establish a community advisory board and maintain at least the same level of charity care as the hospitals’ former owner.
