Mercy lost $21 million in 2007. The hospital received $70 million in capital improvements as a condition of its merger with UPMC, according to the report.

Admissions and surgeries increased significantly at the hospital, which is attributed to the ER renovations and a new brain and stroke center as well as the closing of inpatient services at UPMC Mercy South Side.

UPMC has retained Mercy’s Catholic affiliation and uncompensated care at the hospital has doubled from $30 million to $60 million since the merger, according to the report.
