Downey Regional, a 90-bed facility, initially applied in April for permission from California’s attorney general to merge with PIH, a 548-bed facility affiliated with more than 150 physicians and formerly known as Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital. California Attorney General Kamala Harris approved the proposed merger in August.

Earlier this year, Downey Regional also entered into an agreement with PIH to manage its day-to-day operations as part of the merger.
