The sale is part of a proposed merger between the two hospitals, according to the report. Earlier this year, Downey Regional entered into an agreement with PIH Health to manage its day-to-day operations. Downey Regional, a 90-bed facility, initially applied in April for permission from California’s attorney general to merge with PIH, a 548-bed facility affiliated with more than 150 physicians and formerly known as Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital.
The attorney general’s office held a public hearing concerning the proposed merger in July and is expected to issue a decision this month, according to the report.
