Ohio’s Bucyrus Community Hospital Files for Bankruptcy Protection

Bucyrus (Ohio) Community Hospital, a nonprofit critical-access hospital in north central Ohio, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on March 19. The hospital will remain open and plans to continue all services as it undergoes a restructuring and financial reorganization, according to a story in the Mansfield News Journal.

As part of the reorganization process, the hospital board is considering any offers to lease or sell the hospital, or enter into a partnership.

In January, the hospital cut ties with its president and CEO of 10 years, Gerard Klein, and entered into a management agreement with Quorum Health Resources.

The hospital believes bankruptcy provides the best chance of addressing underlying financial challenges, according to a written statement from the hospital. Within 90-120 days, the hospital hopes to determine what it can pay its creditors, and the full reorganization could take 12-18 months, according to the News Journal.
